 I can truthfully say that Smiling Rhino Theatre’s summer camps have had a significant impact on who I am today. The programs gave me the opportunity to not only explore my interests in the performing arts but also to interact with a group of kids who shared similar interests and to create something truly unique and special together. I was able to learn about all aspects of theatre through a hands-on experience with highly qualified directors, vocal coaches, and choreographers. At the end of the four-week program, we put on a performance of what we’ve learned, giving me the chance to break out of my shell, be comfortable in front of an audience, explore my creativity, and make strong bonds with the other kids in the group. The friends I made at my first day of camp in 2002 continue to be my best friends today even as we are away at college. The important skills I learned through SRT’s camps, such as working successfully in groups, performing skills, and leadership and communication skills, helped me through high school and into college to become a better worker, leader, and group member both on the stage and in the classroom. I believe SRT’s camps are ideal summer programs for kids to explore their creativity and to mature into hard-working and goal-oriented individuals.
